The first day Grafton/MNCDGA Defeated Moruya 5 and a half games to a half to advance to the state final against Toukley who had defeated the Richmond side from Sydney, with 2 regional sides in the final it would be the first time that a regional side had taken out this prestigious event. In the final Grafton were defeated by the Toukley golf club side 5 matches to one with Kayne Endean the sole winner from the Grafton side. Grafton/MNCDGA side had to give away too many shots with the lowest Toukley player off 16, played in extremely wet conditions It also didn’t help that they arrived at the course late and had a few putts then had to start playing unlike the day before where they had 2 hours practice time. At the turn Toukley had four matches up with one down and one match was square. The lead was narrow but they were in a comfortable position. The back nine saw no changes and Toukley went on to win the State Encourage Shield 5-1 over a gallant Grafton. All had a great time and received a runner up medal golf balls and a cap and learnt alot about playing match play and having galleries of people watching them. Also, they met the great man himself Jack Newton. The team would like to thank Billy Bishop for the bus, Grafton’s club president Trevor Townsend for driving the bus down and back, Team manager Mat Worthing for getting the team motivates and prepared and sundry other parents for travelling down with the team and walking with them on the course.

Grafton juniors travelled to Glen Innes this weekend to play a representative team from the Tablelands in junior pennants 6 a side format for the right to be in the Jack Newton regional finals of the NSW Encouragement Shield junior pennants series. Our team comprising 5 Grafton juniors and Cameron Pollard the lone Sawtell junior defeated the tablelands side with kids coming from Armidale, Guyra and Tenterfield. They won 5 games to one at the Glen Inness golf course. leading off for Grafton Kayne Endean encountered the player from the local club and was soundly defeated  5/4, then Nick Fuller easily won his match 5/4 and Cameron Pollard then won his match 4/3 Courtney Fuller encountered  tougher opposition and her match went down to the wire and she won the 17th and 18th holes to win 2 up, Willow Harris also found a tough opponent but came out on top 2 up and our leading player Josh Tajber playing some tremendous golf won his match 1up and was 6 over at the time it finished on the 18th hole.

Team manager Mat Worthing was thrilled with the victory and he has put a lot of effort into getting the team together and ready for the matchplay format. The Team now head to Newcastle for the semi finals and finals to be played in early January 2015
